Ratings: 4.5 out of 5

Title: 소울메이트/Soulmate

Episodes: 12 (actually 22)

Release: 2006

Title: Don’t Turn Away

Title: C’mon Through

Regarding this SOULMATE edit version of “C’mon Through”, I don’t like it much LOL, it really sounds as if he is constipated or something. Opt for the original one, a lot more smoother.

I think I have put off this drama series long enough! I remember how I would always look at this title and think it was another one of those corny sappy dramas that would get me annoyed to no end and the dreaded fast forwarding will come along. Boy was I wrong. It turns out I LOVE this drama!

OK….I just found out a few moments ago that this isn’t even a drama, its a sitcom…? what is the bloody difference, it felt like a drama to me!

Besides the fact that Shin Dong Wook is smoking hot! I haven’t seen a man pull off that headband like a pro in…er…ever! ok ok, with the exception of Lee Jae Jin from FT Island, LOL which reminds me, they look almost a like. Another reason why I LOVE Shin Dong Wook is probably because he has the most amazing shoulders, yes, I.Like.Shoulders! I’m so weird!

Dong Wook Jae Jin

Lets get down to business. Here are my peeves and my favorite parts of the drama.

Peeves:

  • Dong-Wook stated that he likes CD’s and doesn’t own a MP3 player. Um…so buddy, what is that thing you have hanging around your neck when you were at the lake listening to music with Su-Gyeong? certainly doesn’t look like a CD player, unless I am missing something here…
  • Phillip after being dumped by Min-ae, suddenly realizes that Su-Gyeong was the woman for him…man, I doubt anyone wants sloppy seconds.
  • Min-ae, just hearing her name makes me fast forward her parts. Sorry people, just not interested in her at all. Her and her “challenge” Seriously, do people really do that? LOL
  • This one I would regret putting up because I adore Dong-Wook so much, but then after figuring out that Yu-Jin was tracking him by phone, he gives her another chance for love? that, I would never see happening in real life now…LOL
  • Jeong-Hwan, I always wondered how many times this guy fell on the floor and hit his head after seeing “beautiful women”
  • You don’t bump into someone in a cathedral and cry on their shoulder for 10 seconds and run off…someone is bound to think you’re insane and throw you to the ground.
  • Over playing the song “C’mon through” totally killed it for me.
  • I think my ear drums almost ruptured after hearing that high pitch voice of the “Manager”. I really don’t care much to know her name but the fact that she was annoying. Forget it, found out her name is Mi-Jin.
  • By the lake, i really liked how soft and nice Su-Gyeong sounded when she said “Dong-Wook, I think you’re a good person” yet when Dong-Wook said it, it wasn’t soft at all, instead, it was a mood killer! He should have said it in a soft husky smexy voice!

Ok, I hope i got all the peeves! LOL, and here is what I enjoy typing up! OMG I just realized that I have so much favorite parts! AUGH….

Favorite Parts:

  • Episode 1: When Su-Gyeong was walking down the isle on her wedding day and a woman runs by her, pushing her aside to stand by Phillip, hugging and kissing him. Su-Gyeong cries in disbelief while behind her, the doors open and a figure was standing there. Su-Gyeong upset, runs to the figure who had his arms open to hold her. Then…Dong-Wook wakes up from the dream.
  • Episode 6: Yu-Jin farts on Dong-Wook when they were in bed hiding from Jeong-Hwan. I can’t stop laughing, how poor Dong-Wook must have suffered!
  • Episode 6: Jeong-Hwan wanting to get rid of Mi-Jin pretends to be gay, but then that backfires on him.
  • Episode 7: Where Dong-Wook was meeting Yu-Jin at a cathedral, when he has deja vu, remembering his dream with the mysterious girl. That moment was like an absolute stand still for me, I didn’t even know I was holding my breath!
  • Episode 7: When Su-Gyeong breaks up with Phillip, she runs to the phone booth and randomly dials a number, getting Dong-Wook (mind you, they don’t know each other then :D )…Dong-Wook plays a song for her to calm Su-Gyeong down, who was crying so hard she can’t even speak.
  • Episode 8: After Su-Gyeong gives Phillip back his keys, she walks off. Sitting at a bench crying, not even aware of the person *cough Dong-Wook* sitting next to her. If someone that good looking put ear buds in my ears, I’m going to shut my mouth and enjoy the moment! HAHA oh man, trampling on his good will, he is so cute!
  • Episode 8: When Yu-Jin was introducing Dong-Wook to Su-Gyeong for the first time.
  • Episode 8: When Yu-Jin was trying to match her outfit with Dong-Wook, but instead ends up matching Jeong-Hwan and Su-Gyeong ends up matching Dong-Wook.
  • Episode 8: Su-Gyeong and Dong-Wook bumps into each other in the CD store. Cheers for new song they used! Still, that outfit doesn’t flatter Su-Gyeong one bit…
  • Episode 9: “This man…has never genuinely loved”
  • Episode 9: “Someday Su-Gyeong…you’ll meet a genuine love too”
  • Episode 11: Su-Gyeong’s Pil-Sun found Dong-Wook. Smart doggie :D Dong-Wook sure treats dogs with such love and care…and who can forget the “fake” headache!
  • Episode 11: Dong-Wook drives Su-Gyeong home, playing the CD in his car, and hearing Su-Gyeong’s story about when she broke up with Phillip.
  • Episode 12: Picture taking!

I really hope that there would be a SEASON 2 to this drama with the same cast! I highly enjoyed it, though it took me some time to finally watch it, I replayed it like 7 times now! Please film soon!!!

Lyrics (Yes, I played the song over and over and over and over again)

“C’mon Through” By Lasse Lindh

It ain’t so easy to love you true,
account of all the rattlesnakes and all that makes you blue
but it’s worth it, I, I love the thrill

Come, come, come
C’mon through, c’mon you, come dig right into my heart
C’mon through, c’mon you, come dig right into my heart

What is the body if not a place,
where you store all anger and happiness and pain
but it’s worth it, I love the thrill

Come, come, come
C’mon through, c’mon you, come dig right into my heart
C’mon through, c’mon you, come dig right into my heart
C’mon through
C’mon through, c’mon you, come dig right into my heart

“Don’t Turn Away” By Peking Laundry

don’t turn, turn away
you’re miles, miles away
cause I , I can’t see you
don’t turn away to the night

come in my shore where there are million things to say
I return from before, and the memories never fade
now I wanna see you take me, into your arms don’t wake me
until a new day has began

don’t turn, turn away
you’re miles, miles away
cause I , I can’t see you
don’t turn away to the night

falling through time, I can barely stay awake
the fading of sound, but I know I”ll be okay
if you don’t see me coming
down our street, don’t worry
cause I have found our love a place

don’t turn, turn away
you’re miles, miles away
cause I , I can’t see you
don’t turn away, cause tonight I know I’ll be okay
tonight I know what’s on your mind
cause tonight I know I’ll be alright

I’m also a big fan of Soulmate! I’ve watched it many times too and shown it to some of my friends. The parts you listed as your favorites, were some of my favorites and I agree with most of the things that peeved you. :’D

I wish they’d make a season 2 also… And I don’t know what the difference between drama and sitcom is either. xD

I would be considered a very odd fan for this show since I am older than most watching it and am a guy :) But I really liked the music, quirky characters and most of the show overall.

Thanks for your blog, BTW. I was looking for info on the music in this series. Do you have any more info on the sound track of all of the commonly played songs? Was there a CD put out for it?

My take on the sitcom vs drama – Since sitcom stands for situation comedy, that is what makes it different than a drama series. There were far too many “whacky” moments (especially in the last few episodes with over-the-top-acting) and unique comedy camera tricks for it to be considered a standard drama (like maybe how Coffee Prince is a drama, even though it had some comedy elements).

    Thanks again!!!

    Hello Mike,

    Thanks for your comment.
LOL now don’t you go bout age on this one ;) you never know if I am older then you! however, it is true, I wouldn’t have though a guy would watch something as sappy as this “sitcom”

To answer your question, there is a soundtrack out for this drama, however you might be disappointed but not surprised that it just didn’t include most of the songs you would have loved to have in it.

One of my favorite songs “Don’t Turn Away” By Peking Laundry didn’t show up on the soundtrack, however the overly played “C’mon Through” By Lasse Lindh shows up in it.

    Hope that helps you out!

    Hi Madteahouse,

I know, I am surprised I liked it too. These K-Dramas/Sitcoms are so different than American shows, I find them more enjoyable. But just like other shows, it takes a few episodes to “tolerate” some of the characters to be able to like them.

But I really enjoyed Coffee Prince (another odd one for me to like), Unstoppable Wedding (funny as heck), and Hong Gildong, the Hero (I think?). I even liked Couple or Trouble (or Couple in Trouble, depending).

BTW, if you are interested, and don’t mind me posting a link to another site, I found a great blog that allows you to play all of the songs from the show (most of which I didn’t know were on it), including the Don’t Turn Away, which was my favorite song from it. But there is a really good version of Fly Me to the Moon by Olivia. Or you can email me and I will email the link.

Another show that was great that I saw last year was a Japanese X-Files type of comedy called Trick (then there was Trick 2). Very funny, not much drama, and the mysteries were a little iffy, but still fun.

Thanks again for your blog and the info on the music!

    Mike

I have watched Coffee Prince and fell in love with it. However, I haven’t watched the others you have mentioned.

Feel free to email me at Teahouse2x @ gmail dot com
I respect other people’s sites, and some of them might show “no hotlinking” so if you want to email me, please do.

I actually love comedy investigative dramas, X-files was one of my favorite TV series…shame it had to end…

Thanks for visiting my site, highly appreciate any input and comments!
    have a great day!
